Indian Cuisine by region
I feel like it is important to understand the different regions of India and the type of cuisine that you can find in each. Although I am not an expert on Indian Cuisine (quite literally been eating it for less than 4 months), I did try quite a variety throughout my time in India. For example, in Gujrat typically you don’t find Naan Bread, south of India offers sweater type of curry has they put a lot of coconut in dishes.
North India inclusive Rajasthan state, where Jaipur is located, offers spicy and hearty currys, more meaty, spicy and with a lot of different flavours in contrast with other regions. Of course you can find similar dishes everywhere, and even have south dishes in Northern cities, but you find them in all the menus of the restaurants in Jaipur.
What to Eat in Jaipur: Best Places to eat in Jaipur
When I first arrived in Jaipur, I had no idea the food would steal my heart. Honestly, before coming to India, I was a bit nervous—spicy food wasn’t really my thing, and I wasn’t sure how I’d cope. But from the very first bite, everything changed. My idea of spice, flavour, and what makes a meal good got a full-on “reset”—and now, Indian food is hands down my favourite cuisine in the world.
In this post, I’m sharing a food lover’s guide through the best places to eat local food in Jaipur and street food spots. From savoury Indian snacks to sweet treats, let’s dive into the flavours that make the Pink City so unforgettable!

How to Make the Most of the Food in Jaipur
As soon as I arrived in Jaipur and passed by the bazaars and markets, I knew I wanted to try as much food as I possibly could. Jaipur was my third and final city in the infamous Golden Triangle route. I had already had a small taste of the local cuisine in Delhi two nights before, but there was something about Jaipur that made me go all in. I didn’t just wanted to try the food—I wanted to fully immerse myself in the culture.
I was especially excited to try Jaipur’s street food, but I didn’t want to risk getting a bad belly four days into the trip. So, I decided to hire a local guide and do a food tour of Jaipur—100% worth it! I got to taste amazing dishes, refreshing drinks, exotic fruits, and interact with locals just like I had hoped.
Joining a food tour in Jaipur helped me feeling confident in what I was eating as well as feeling safe!
If you’re visiting Jaipur and interested in joining a food tour, I highly recommend going with Khalib around the market to try the local goodies.
Best Street Food in Jaipur You Can’t Miss
Vada Pav – Imagine a fluffy bun stuffed with a crispy, deep-fried potato dumpling, drizzled with tangy chutneys, and served with a spicy green chili on the side. That’s vada pav for you. Think of it as India’s answer to the burger, born on the busy streets of Mumbai but now found across the country. Cheap, filling, and packed with flavor!
Tip: make sure you get enough chutney and chili, otherwise it can be a bit dry.

Pani Puri – This was my first try of Indian street food! These are crispy hollow balls filled with spicy tamarind water, boiled potatoes, chickpeas, onions, and minty water.
Pro Tip: You have to eat them in one bite like a shot—otherwise, it’ll spill everywhere!
Dahi Puri or Sev Puri – My absolute favourite Indian street food. Similar to Pani Puri, but instead of spicy water, it’s filled with yogurt, chickpea mini crisps, pomegranate seeds, honey, and some spicy-salty herbs. The flavor explosion is insane—for me, Dahi Puri/Sev Puri is India on a plate. Yummm!
💖 I could eat Dahi Puri forever—it’s the dish that made me fall in love with Indian street food!
Dosas – A dosa is a thin, crispy pancake from South India but served everywhere. It has a super addictive texture and usually comes with various chutneys. While I’m more of a Naan bread kind of girl (Portugal pride!), Dosa is a close second on my Indian carb list.
Naan Bread – I absolutely love naan! It’s like a chewy pizza dough. Traditionally made in a tandoor (clay oven) using flour, water, yogurt, and a pinch of sugar. Originating from Persia, it came to India via royal courts. In Jaipur, you can try all kinds: plain, buttered, garlic (my fave!), cheese, and even sweet versions with coconut and nuts.
Aloo Tikka – Discovered this one on my food tour with Khalib. Aloo Tikka is basically Indian hash browns: fried potato patties with onions and loads of spices. You usually find them on market street carts, served hot and topped with yogurt and chutney. It’s spicy, but you can ask for more yogurt to balance it (I did!).
Samosas – Probably the most globally known Indian snack. But in India, they hit different. The spices are balanced and flavorful, not overpowering. A triangle-shaped pastry filled with spiced vegetables and potatoes, often served with sweet or spicy chutneys. I relied on them for on-the-go Indian snacks when traveling between cities.
Top Restaurants in Jaipur for Authentic Flavours

I also got tips from local Indian friends living in the UK (with family in Jaipur) and read books by expats who lived in India for over 10 years. I’m sharing my finds here because writing them on Miriam Memoirs brings me so much joy—and hopefully, helps future explorers like you too!

Rambagh Palace ££££ Go here for a royal breakfast (~$25) that includes both a la carte and buffet options. You can explore the palace gardens and enjoy a piece of Jaipur’s regal history. They also have a restaurant inside a converted steam train—dining there is like stepping into a Wes Anderson film. Service is impeccable and personal. Shoutout to our lovely waiter Hitesh for recommending the best Dosas!
📍Location: Bhawani Singh Road

Bar Palladio Jaipur £££ Yes, it’s Italian food. No, it’s not traditional Indian. But hear me out: this place is here for the vibes. The decor is like something from a Disney movie—elegant blue interiors, romantic lighting, and dreamy cocktails. A feast for the eyes and a great break from curry overload.
📍Location: Narain Singh Road
Natraj Restaurant ££ A great place for authentic vegetarian Rajasthani cuisine. It’s been open since 1967! Warm hospitality, especially accommodating for allergies (egg and nut). It’s not as glam as other spots, but that’s exactly why I loved it—it felt local, humble, and real.
📍Location: MI Road
Handi Restaurant Jaipur ££ Recommended by our guide, and it did not disappoint. Known for rich curries like Paneer Tikka and Laal Maas. Both locals and tourists love it, and it’s been serving great food for over 40 years.
